There is one new member came into the house, which is the Tamron 28-75 f/2.8 XR LD Di SP!!
Uhm… Maybe I should do a simple review for it?
Okay, just before any serious review, lets see how’s my first impression to this lens?
Frankly speaking, I’m not big fan of Tamron. Never own one and never wanted too. But too bad, this time, i got to brake my promise as this is the only choice for the budget I have for the particular focal length. I will make serious review after I test enough of it.
As for now, when I received the lens, through mail, I’m kinda disappointed. The box is so small hence, the lens will be small too. I doubt it will be balanced on my camera with battery grip. To a certain extend, I somehow feel it is smaller than the DX legendary 17-50 f/2.8.
To me, this lens is very plasticky. The build is so cheap like you can never afford to drop it. Even put inside the bag, you shouldn’t have something above it. If you looking for something robust, this is not your choice. Your child can easily brake this lens.
There are 2 switches on the lens. One is to lock lens @ 28mm so that lens creep doesn’t happen. Personally don’t use this and don’t know why I need it. Anyway, it is badly positioned and so called hard to access to the button. On the other side, there is another switch or button for users to change from AF to MF or vice versa. Again, badly positioned and stiff. Switching it make me feels like I will brake this little lens any time soon. (Can’t Tamron just make better for their lenses??”")
Focus. Oh, you don’t want to know. It is loud. Another why. Why just can’t Tamron produce more silent auto focus motor? By the way, this is built-in motor version. It is somehow slow in focus. In low light, I struggle a little to lock.
The handling. Beside it is rather small for my camera, switches not well position, i think I had nothing to said. Have no problem to zoom and get wider. Typically, smooth.
Picture quality? Distortion? CA? Left it for next time. If first impression I could tell you all these, please visit another site.
By the way, this lens is cheap compared to competitors. I got mine @ rm1455 from online store. Sigma or Nikon will cost my arms and legs so just go for the cheapest option. That’s all for now. Oh yea, this photo taken with HTC Wildfire – Vignette.
